Mitrovic: Launch an investigation into misuse of funds

Banjaluka – The president of the Republika Srpska Organisation of Families of Captured and Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians, Nedeljko Mitrovic, feels that competent authorities should launch an investigation into the misuse of funds by the BiH Missing Persons Institute.
He said that the Republika Srpska Organisation of Families of Captured and Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians has for quite some time been pointing to irregularities in the spending of funds intended for exhumation, storage and burial of mortal remains of missing persons.

“We have an obvious disparity in spending to the detriment of the exhumation of missing Serbs, which should be the primary task of the BiH Missing Persons Institute,” Mitrovic told SRNA.

He noted that this is why the Organisation, by way of the Serbian representatives in the BiH institutions, has filed a request with the BiH Parliament for the forming of a commission of inquiry which would primarily investigate the legality of the operations of the BiH Missing Persons Institute, the International Commission on Missing Persons and the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.

The Republika Srpska representatives in the BiH Missing Persons Institute say that the serious violations of the rulebook on exhumation and identification were tolerated and ignored when the priority was the search for missing Bosniaks, but that the rules were changed when most of this job was completed and when it but remained to find the great many missing Serbs.

They say that the BiH Prosecutor’s Office started to illegally manage the money for exhumation and identification, otherwise intended for the BiH Missing Persons Institute, and to deny funds for the search for Serbs.
